Quaestiones Habetis?

Got Questions?

What are your normal tutoring hours?

I send out a weekly email with a calendar overview of the upcoming week, and my available hours. I also regularly update my website so that when you register for a session, the options reflect my availability. Students then respond with a list of preferred hours and session times, and I schedule the week based upon those preferences. That way, I can give the most accurate hours and try my best to give each student the session window they’d like.

How does online tutoring work?

I tutor online using Google Docs for collaboration, and FaceTime/Skype as the primary communication tool. By creating a document online, I can talk through material with a student while simultaneously highlighting the words or areas of text we’re discussing. It also provides a living resource for the student to refer back to whenever she or he needs to review our past discussions. Also, if the student is interested, I am happy to provide a recording of the session as another method of review.

Do you work with students in different time zones?

I do – because of the flexibility of online tutoring, I’ve worked with students across the country, from coast to coast. We have always been able to find a time frame that works, and because the work of the session is preserved in the Google Doc, there’s always access for you to review the material from our sessions, regardless of geographical separation.

I’d like to practice a particular topic on my own time. Do you offer options for worksheets?

Absolutely. I’m happy to create custom worksheets about specific topics. If you find yourself in need of a sheet testing you on a particular area, feel free to send a message through the contact form with the details and I’ll be sure to reach back out with more information.

Do you tutor other subjects?

English grammar and analytical essay writing are two other subjects I’ve worked on with students. For instance, I’ve helped a student prepare for the writing portions of the ISEE and SSAT by talking through the creative and analytical options for those tests. Ultimately, I tutor subjects in which I feel certain I can offer a learning experience that will help students feel more confident and assured in their abilities, which is why I focus mainly on Latin and English grammar. However, if you’re curious about another topic, please feel free to reach out and if I feel that I have enough experience in the area in which you’re looking for support, I’d be happy to talk further.

Isn’t Latin a dead language?

Yes! But don’t be fooled – learning Latin is still one of the best time investments you can make. If you’re interested in exactly why that is, I’ve written a short post that walks through both my view of the benefits of Latin, and also dives into the broader research from other academicians who’ve described the merits of learning Latin.
